Asthma Resource Collection

The CDC's Asthma Cost Calculator helps organizations estimate the financial impact of asthma by calculating direct medical expenses and productivity losses. This tool provides insight into the economic burden of asthma, supporting data-driven decisions for resource allocation and management strategies. By using this tool, employers, health systems and policymakers can understand the value of investing in asthma prevention and intervention programs.

The Breathe Well, Live Well® program serves as the Lung Association's Signature Program for adult asthma self-management education that teaches adults to take control of their asthma so they can be active and healthy. The curriculum is based on national best practices for asthma care and is evidenced based. Breathe Well, Live Well® is the only program available nationwide that has shown to result in less severe asthma, fewer respiratory problems, and a better ability to stick to treatment plans.

The program includes sections devoted to:

- Understanding your asthma
- Building your asthma support team
- Taking asthma medications
- Using tools for daily self-management
- Following good health habits

The Chicago Asthma Consortium has collaborated with Chicago’s Asthma Community to collect and share asthma resources that are available throughout Chicagoland.

The intended beneficiaries of the Asthma Resource Collection are not only patients, but also those serving them: caregivers, providers, health systems, school systems, researchers, and non-profit organizations.

By informing key stakeholders about each other’s services and service areas, CAC aims to deepen the resources to which the asthma community could refer their clients, increase the utilization of the organizations’ own resources, and help identify service gaps and opportunities for partnerships to fill them.
