Chicago Asthma Consortium

This program will focus on various lifestyle and medication tools that can help manage asthma symptoms. Presenters who have extensive experience in the asthma and allergy fields will discuss their particular areas of research and their clinical findings. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the tools and techniques that can be used to manage asthma.

This event is FREE to attend for all! 3.0 CEU Certificate $25 for CAC Members, $50 for non-members.

Presenters:


Kristin Kan, MD, MPH, MSc - Digital Tools for Asthma Management

Attending Physician, Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago; Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Kan is a primary care pediatrician and health services and health policy researcher. Her research is primarily focused on the design of health policies and health systems and how to improve health care access and the quality of care for children with chronic diseases, in particular asthma.

Sharmilee M. Nyenhuis, MD - Physical Activity and Asthma Management

Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Medicine with University of Chicago Medicine. Dr. Nyenhuis’s specializes in pediatric asthma and immunology.

Dr. Christie Brillante, MD - Obesity and Asthma Management

Pulmonologist, UI Center for Lung Health. Dr. Brillante provides individualized care to patients with a variety of pulmonary diseases, and she has special interest in minority healthcare.

Carina Venter, PhD, RD - Nutrition and Diet for Asthma Management

Associate Professor, Pediatrics-Allergy/Immunology at University of Colorado Medicine. Her research and clinical practice over the past 30 years has focused on the prevention, diagnosis and management of food allergies and other allergic diseases. Her research examines how nutrition and other modifiable factors contribute to the development of allergic diseases. She uses observational studies to identify risk facts, focusing on epigenetic changes and the the role of the microbiome in the development of allergic diseases. Clinically, she enjoys supporting families to induce minimal food restrictions despite their child's food allergies and incorporate nutritional strategies to induce tolerance.
