Join us for CAC’s Fall 2026 Lunch & Learn Series!

Busy schedule? Learning about asthma management doesn’t have to take hours. From August through November, join us each month at 12:00 PM for a 30-minute Zoom session featuring asthma experts who will share practical insights and answer your questions about asthma and related health concerns.

These free sessions are open to everyone—from healthcare professionals to community members who want to better support their own health or the health of loved ones.

Join us on August 19 for the first session in CAC’s Fall 2026 Lunch & Learn Series, featuring Gloria Seals and Rhonda Lay of the Sinai Urban Health Institute. In this 30-minute presentation, participants will learn best practices for conducting effective home assessments, including how to identify environmental factors that may impact asthma and overall respiratory health. Whether you're a healthcare professional, community health worker, or caregiver, this session will provide practical tools and insights you can apply in your work and community.


Presenters

Gloria Seals

Gloria Seals joined SUHI in 2000 as SUHI’s first community health worker (CHW), specializing in asthma education and management. Throughout the years and ongoing grant-funded, CHW-led interventions, she has educated and supported children, their caregivers, and adults on proper asthma management. Gloria was promoted multiple times throughout her tenure and in 2022 became SUHI’s CHW Manager. She currently works on the Asthma Home Visiting Collaborative funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CHW Assistance Program. Gloria oversees SUHI’s CHW interventions and team, mentoring staff, including CHW supervisors, and advises and guides active and future projects.

Gloria has over 40 years’ experience in the healthcare field having worked at many organizations throughout Chicagoland including John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Roseland Community Hospital.

Passion drives my work. I find profound purpose in walking alongside patients through their challenges, helping to improve their quality of life. Equally fulfilling is training and supporting community health workers.  Whether experienced or new to the role, their collaboration increases the collective impact on individuals and communities.

Rhonda Lay

Rhonda M. Lay is currently employed as a Senior Community Health Worker Consultant/CROWD Facilitator for Sinai Urban Health Institute in Chicago, Illinois. In her work at Sinai Urban Health Institute (fondly called SUHI), Rhonda does home visits with children and adults who have uncontrolled asthma, where she educates participants and their families about the disease management, its triggers, medications and how to handle an asthma emergency.  She also trains new CHWs, CHWs management team and care coordinators in the Chicagoland area and co-facilitates SUHI’s CHW empowerment group. Rhonda’s background is she was a Registered Respiratory in the Chicagoland area.
